It’s Hollywood Week on American Idol!

On Wednesday’s episode, more than 300 singers arrived in Los Angeles, hoping to keep their dream alive. Each contestant performed an a cappella song of their choice in front of judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, who offered very little feedback other than telling them whether or not they’re still in the competition. Many of the standouts from auditions are still in the game but others, including Jim Carrey’s daughter Jane, were sent home.

Carrey performed “Lookin’ Out My Backdoor” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. “I freaked out when I was there so I was really, really shaky. I know I can do way better than that and so I’m really disappointed in myself,” she said before calling her father to break the bad news. “I talked to my dad and he was really comforting and he said, ‘I’ve been said no to a bunch of times,’ and it worked out well for him in the end so hopefully I have a shot.”

Among the men moving on to the next round: A confident Johnny Keyser, who sang “Dreamin’” by Amos Lee. Phillip Phillips, the pawnshop employee from Georgia, performed “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.” Reed Grimm, who sang the theme song to Family Matters for his audition, performed “I Got a Golden Ticket” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in Hollywood. “Ladies man” David Letters, 17, hit all the high notes in CĂ©line Dion‘s “Because You Love Me.” And Jeremy Rosado, who sang Luther Vandross’s “Superstar,” gave Jennifer “goosies.”

The best of the women included Elise Testone from Charleston, S.C., who performed “Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai. Hallie Day, who told a story of a suicide attempt when she auditioned in Pittsburg, sang Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman.” Winery employee Jen Hirsh had Steven saying, “Don’t stop … that was beautiful,” with her version of “Up to the Mountain” by Patty Griffin. Jessica Phillips, who became a caretaker when her boyfriend suffered a debilitating stroke, sang Whitney Houston’s “All the Man that I Need.” And Erika Van Pelt, a mobile DJ and wedding singer, had Jennifer screaming “More of that! More of that!” with her version of Pink’s “Glitter in the Air.”

We don’t yet know what happened to Symone Black who sang “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding. The 16-year-old wandered to the edge of the stage after her audition and appeared to pass out, falling to the floor in what looked like a dangerous spill. Ryan Seacrest promised an update on Symone’s condition when Idol‘s Hollywood Week coverage continues Thursday (8 p.m. ET).
